The City of Chateauguay has experienced a rise of COVID-19 cases in the past week, registering close to about a hundred new cases. The Monteregie’s Public Health Office attributes this jump to two outbreaks in some schools in the municipality.
The balance-sheet of accumulated cases in Chateauguay has risen from 485 on October 23 to 581 on November 3, an increase of 96 cases in 11 days. It is Chateauguay’s most important rise since the beginning of the pandemic.
Questioned about the reasons for this amount, the director of Monteregie Public Health, Dr. Julie Loslier, pinpointed the outbreaks at two Chateauguay schools. St. Jude Elementary School registered 18 cases (15 pupils and three adults) between October 27 and November 3.
About 30 cases were also counted at College Heritage during the last week of October. The school establishment then closed its doors for two weeks. “When one looks at only one city, it is certain that one outbreak in a school is going to contribute to made the number of cases increase. The situation in the schools is controlled (in Chateauguay). The measures are in place,” Dr. Loslier assured.
