(English follows) Réagissant à la décision de la Cour d’appel en sa faveur, le conseiller municipal Mike Gendron se dit «heureux et soulagé», mais regrette «que les citoyens doivent payer à même leurs taxes pour des raisons purement politiques».

Selon lui, toute cette histoire était une «manigance de l’équipe de l’ex-mairesse Nathalie Simon pour le déloger du conseil municipal à l’approche des élections de novembre 2013». «Ça n’aurait jamais dû se retrouver en cour. J’ai aussi souffert personnellement de cette histoire. J’ai dû expliquer le ridicule de cette action en justice à ma famille, mes amis et mes clients des centaines de fois. Tant d’énergie perdue pour rien», a-t-il exprimé avec rancœur.
Quant aux immeubles qu’on lui reprochait de ne pas avoir déclarés, le conseiller répète qu’il n’avait pas à le faire, comme vient de le confirmer la décision de la Cour d’appel. «Est-ce que j’ai à entrer dans tous les détails de toute ma vie dans cette déclaration? Je l’ai remplie et elle est conforme», a-t-il exprimé avant d’ajouter qu’il considérait avoir toujours fait preuve d’une grande transparence devant le conseil municipal. «Je n’ai rien caché de ma vie. Si j’avais un petit cousin de la fesse gauche qui pouvait avoir un intérêt dans un dossier traité par le conseil, je le signalais et me retirais, même si je n’avais jamais vu ce cousin», dit-il.

Gendron ‘’happy and relieved’’ by his victory
Reacting to the Court of Appeal decision in his favour, Chateauguay municipal councillor Mike Gendron says he is ‘’happy and relieved,’’ but regrets ‘’that the citizens must pay with their taxes for purely political reasons.’’
According to him, this whole story was a ‘’scheme of the team of former Mayoress Nathalie Simon to remove him from the municipal council at the approach of the elections of November 2013.’’ ‘’That should have never found itself in court. I also suffered personally from that story. I had to explain the ridiculousness of that court action to my family, my friends and my clients hundreds of times. So much energy wasted for nothing,’’ he expressed with rancour.

As for the buildings for which he was rebuked for not having declared, the councillor repeats that he didn’t have to, as the Court of Appeal has now confirmed in its ruling. ‘’Do I have to enter all the details of my life in this declaration? I filled out the form and it conforms,’’ he noted, then adding that he considered having always gave proof of a great transparency in front of the municipal council. ‘’I have never hidden anything in my life. If I had a little cousin who had an interest in a file treated by the council, I would point it out and refrain (from voting or trying to influence anyone), even if I had never even seen this cousin,’’ he said.
