La deuxième phase de développement du sportplex à Châteauguay, qui prévoit la construction d’une piscine intérieure, est actuellement en suspens.
Le nouveau CA de la régie intermunicipale Beau-Chateau est en attente d’une réponse à sa demande de subvention de 7,5 M$ déposée dans le cadre du Programme de soutien aux installations sportives et récréatives -Phase IV du gouvernement provincial. Mais le son de cloche obtenu par le maire Pierre-Paul Routhier de la part du député de Châteauguay Pierre Moreau est que la subvention accordée pourrait être moindre. «Si on reçoit juste 5 M$, on va réfléchir à ce qu’on va faire. On va revoir le montage financier du projet et se repositionner face à ça. Mais si on reçoit moins que ça, on ne réfléchira pas», a-t-il lancé en sous-entendant que le projet serait alors abandonné.
Le maire a ensuite nuancé ses propos en disant vouloir étudier toutes les possibilités avant de s’engager dans de nouvelles dépenses qui alourdiront le compte de taxes des citoyens. «Ça fait beaucoup de millions à dépenser en peu de temps : 20 M$ pour le sportplex, 20 M$ pour la piscine, 20 M$ pour le futur poste de police» a-t-il énuméré.
Il a par ailleurs reconnu la nécessité de construire une nouvelle piscine intérieure à Châteauguay ou de rénover l’ancienne. Il indique avoir à cet égard commandé un rapport d’évaluation complet du Polydium à une firme d’ingénieur afin de pouvoir «avoir une meilleure idée» de l’état des lieux.
Indoor pool project on hold
The second phase of Sportplex development in Chateauguay, which provides for the construction of an indoor swimming pool, is currently on the shelf.
The new board of directors of the Beau-Château Board is awaiting a response to its request for a $7.5 million grant deposited in the framework of the provincial government’s Program of support for sports and recreation installations, Phase 4. But the bad news obtained by Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier from Chateauguay MNA Pierre Moreau is that the subsidy awarded could be for less money.
‘’If we receive only $5 million, we are going to reflect about what we are going to do. We will have to take another look at the financial setup of the project and reposition ourselves according to that. But if we receive less than that, we will not consider it at all,’’ the Mayor said, inferring that the project would in that case be scrapped.
The Mayor then moderated his words, saying he wanted to again study all the possibilities before committing to new expenses which would make the citizens’ tax bills more of a burden. ‘’That makes many millions to spend in a short time : $20 million for the Sportplex, $20 million for the swimming pool $20 million for the future police station,’’ he enumerated.
Moreover, he recognized the necessity of building a new indoor pool in Chateauguay or to renovate the old one. He indicates having ordered in this regard a complete evaluation report of the Polydium from an engineering firm in order to be able ‘’to have a better idea’’ of the state of the facility.
