Kahnawake reopens for business only

As the first phase of reopening Kahnawake economy starts on June 1st, the COVID-19 Task Force is strict on not allowing non-locals if they are not on the territory for the purposes of trade and commerce. Guests are also allowed on certain conditions.  The access to Kahnawake remains limited. Non-residents can only visit between 6 AM to 10 PM. Also, customers are required to leave immediately after making purchases. The Kahnawake Peacekeepers will ensure the directives are followed and will continue to issue fines which are about $1,500 if visitors are not respecting the guidelines. Lloyd Phillips, Commissioner of Public Safety previously told Le Soleil that residential area are going to remain closed. Guests The COVID-19 Task Force of Kahnawake stated on May 30th that non-local gests are permitted. “It is important to note that any visitors must be an invited guest of Kahnawake residents. Those found on the territory without reason (not a guest or not for commerce purposes) are subject to fines”, explains the press release. Social distancing must be maintained, and all visits must be conducted outdoors in groups of 8 people or less.
