(English follows) La police de Châteauguay met la population en garde contre un fraudeur qui demande de l’aide à des passants.
«Deux événements similaires sont survenus à Châteauguay où un homme dans la trentaine a abordé des femmes dans la rue afin de leur demander de l’aide pour pouvoir récupérer son argent. Il prétend avoir perdu sa carte de guichet alors que la banque est fermée. Il demande de se servir du cellulaire de la personne afin de transférer par courriel un montant d’argent dans son compte bancaire. Par la suite, le fraudeur et la victime se rendent au guichet automatique afin de récupérer l’argent déposé dans le compte de cette dernière, explique la police dans un communiqué. Dans les jours qui ont suivi, les deux femmes ont été informées que le dépôt était frauduleux.»
L’individu qui aurait commis les fraudes est un homme de race blanche s’exprimant en anglais, mesurant environ 6 pieds (1,82 mètre), à la silhouette mince ainsi qu’aux cheveux et aux yeux bruns.
Informer la police
La police recommande aux citoyens piégés ou ciblés par un fraudeur de le rapporter aux autorités. «En signalant une fraude, vous permettez à la population d’être informée de différents stratagèmes d’arnaque qui se renouvellent constamment. Rappelez-vous que plus de personnes sont informées et partagent l’information, plus il devient difficile pour les fraudeurs de parvenir à leurs fins! » souligne le service de police.
Fraud artist solicits passers-by
Chateauguay police are putting the general public on guard against a fraud artist who is asking for help from passers-by.
»Two similar incidents took place in Chateauguay where a man in his 30s stopped two women in the street in order to ask for help to be able to get his money back. He says he lost his banking card when the bank closed. He asked to use the person’s cell phone in order to transfer via email an amount of money in his bank account. Next, the fraud artist and the victim went to the automatic teller wicket in order to recuperate the money deposited in the latter’s account, police explain in a communique. »In the following days, the two women were informed that the deposit was fraudulent. »
The individual who is said to have committed the frauds is white man who spoke English, measuring about six feet (1.82 metres) tall, with a slim frame, brown hair and brown eyes.
Inform police
Police recommend that citizens trapped or targeted by a fraud artist should report it to the authorities. »By exposing a fraud, you enable the population to be informed of various swindling stratagems that are being constantly renewed. Remember that more people who are informed and who share the information, the more difficult it becomes for fraud artists to reach their goals! » the police emphasize. (Tr: D.R.)
