(English follows) Officiellement en poste depuis lundi, le nouveau maire de Châteauguay compte s’attaquer rapidement à ce qu’il a promis aux citoyens pendant sa campagne, soit de «redynamiser» l’économie de la Ville.
«Dès que je me serai informé des choses de base, comme quoi faire en cas d’urgence, et après avoir parlé aux chefs de service, je vais planifier des rencontres avec les investisseurs, comme les propriétaires du Centre Régional et du Faubourg Châteauguay, a exprimé M. Routhier en entrevue avec le Soleil de Châteauguay le 9 novembre. Je veux leur dire que l’attitude à Châteauguay va changer. C’est très important parce que c’est ce qui, je pense, nous a fait élire», poursuit-il.
Dans la même logique, M. Routhier promet de créer rapidement un guichet unique pour accompagner les investisseurs et réduire la paperasse. «Ce n’est pas la Ville qui creuse les trous. Mais la Ville peut aller chercher les gens qui veulent creuser les trous et les aider à le faire», illustre-t-il.
Changement administratif à prévoir?
Doit-on s’attendre à des changements majeurs au sein de l’administration de la Ville ? À cette question, M. Routhier a soutenu qu’il ne voyait pas d’inconvénient à travailler avec les gens en place, «à condition que ceux-ci adoptent la vision de la nouvelle équipe». «Ce sont des gens (le directeur général, la directrice des communications et la greffière, entre autres) qui ont été engagés au cours de huit dernières années, lors du mandat de Nathalie Simon, explique M. Routhier. Notre approche sera très différente. Je vais exiger d’eux leur loyauté. Mais s’ils ne sont pas prêts à ça, ça ne sert à rien de rester là à se battre».
Qui est Pierre-Paul Routhier?
-Originaire de Sherbrooke. Résident de Châteauguay depuis 40 ans
-Père de trois enfants et grand-père de cinq petits-enfants.
-Détendeur d’un baccalauréat en administration (1976)
-En 1978, il achète une compagnie de déménagement longue distance (Déménagement Trans-Canada, affilée au Réseau Atlas Van Lines). Il en sera propriétaire pendant 24 ans. Il gère environ 25 employés réguliers, et plusieurs camionneurs pigistes (owner operator).
-À l’âge de 44 ans, il commence un certificat en droit à temps partiel à l’Université de Montréal. Il poursuit ensuite son baccalauréat à la Faculté de droit de la même université et devient membre du Barreau quatre ans plus tard.
-En 2002, il vend sa compagnie, et pratique le droit civil et commercial au sein de l’étude Routhier Goulet, inc. à Châteauguay dès 2003.
-En 2008, il se présente comme candidat conservateur aux élections fédérales. Il arrive troisième, derrière Linda Schwey du parti libéral et Carole Freeman, du Bloc Québécois.

Interview with new Chateauguay Mayor: The economy will be his priority
Officially at his post since Monday, the new Chateauguay Mayor is counting on to quickly tackle what he promised the citizens during his election campaign, to « re-dynamize » the City’s economy.
«As soon as I will be informed about the basic things, such as what to do in case of emergency, and after having spoken to the department heads, I am going to plan some meetings with the investors, such as the owners of the Regional Shopping Centre and Faubourg Chateauguay, » Pierre-Paul Routhier expressed in an interview with Le Soleil de Chateauguay on November 9. « I want to tell them that the attitude in Chateauguay is going to change. That’s very important because I think that is what got us elected, » he continued.
In the same logic, Routhier is promising to quickly create a unique counter to accompany the investors and reduce the paperwork. « It is not the City that digs the holes, » he said. « But the City can go and get the people who want to dig the holes and help them do it. »
Administrative changes to be seen?
Can one expect major changes at the heart of the City administration? To this question, Routhier contended that he was not seeing any inconvenience in working with the people in place, « on the condition that they adopt the new team’s vision. They are the people (the director general, the director of communications and the chief clerk, among others), who have been hired during the past eight years, during Nathalie Simon’s mandate, » Routhier explained. « Our approach will be very different. I am going to exist on their loyalty. But if they are not ready for that, there is no point in them staying there to fight us. »
Who is Pierre-Paul Routhier?

-In 2002, he sells his company and practises civil and commercial law at the firm of Routhier Goulet Inc. in Chateauguay, beginning in 2003.
-In 2008, he presents himself as a Conservative candidate in the federal elections. He comes in third, behind Linda Schwey of the Liberal Party and Carole Freeman of the Bloc Quebecois.
