Le blitz de travaux amorcé pendant l’été sur le pont Honoré-Mercier par le ministère des Transports, et qui s’est poursuivi cet automne pendant les fins de semaine, devrait finir avant les Fêtes. Une météo défavorable reporterait toutefois la fin du chantier au printemps prochain.
«Lorsque les travaux de réfection des rampes seront complétés, le MTQ pourra retirer les blocs de béton qui servent actuellement de rampe de protection temporaire. Ce qui permettra d’élargir les deux voies de circulation» a déclaré le maire de Châteauguay, Pierre-Paul Routhier, dans une vidéo diffusée sur Facebook le 3 décembre.
En cas de météo défavorable, le chantier pourrait être suspendu et reporté au printemps prochain. «Si c’est le cas, les jersey (blocs de béton) ne pourront pas être enlevés. S’il y a des accumulations importantes de neige, on pourrait donc se retrouver avec une seule voie pour circuler», déplore le maire dans son allocution.
Les travaux sous la structure du pont se poursuivront quant à eux pendant la saison hivernale.

Enlarged lane on span for Christmas
The work blitz initiated during the summer on the Mercier Bridge by the Quebec Transport Ministry and which continued this fall during weekends, should come to an end before the Christmas holidays. Unfavourable weather conditions, however, would postpone the end of the work to next spring.
’’When the repairs of the ramps will be completed, the MTQ will be able to remove the blocks of cement which actually serve as temporary protection ramps. That will permit the enlargement of the two traffic lanes,’’ declared Chateauguay Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier, in a video broadcast on Facebook on December 3.
In case of inclement weather, the work could be suspended and resumed next spring. ‘’If that is the case, the jerseys (blocks of cement) will not be able to be removed. If there are significant accumulations of snow, we could then find ourselves with one lone lane for driving,’’ deplores the Mayor in his speech.
The work underneath the bridge structure will continue during the winter season.
