Some cities from the region are granting a reprieve to their tax-paying property owners now that the coronavirus crisis has pushed thousands of people to the unemployment line.
Of that number, the Chateauguay City Council has decided to abolish interest charges and penaties on late tax payments up until November 5.
The measure will be arranged so that the late-payers will not have any consequences. Mayor Pierre-Paul Routhier, however, is urging citizens who have the means to pay their tax bill by the originally scheduled dates. Otherwise, the City will miss liquid asserts and will see itself forced to borrow, he emphasized.
