The exterior yard of the Châteauguay Community Centre was the target of acts of vandalism on the weekend of May 24, informs its General Manager Nadia Tremblay. As this is not the first time, the organization's management wants to make citizens aware of the need to stop leaving donations outside when the Centre is closed, to avoid this type of situation recurring.

“Padlocks that were put on our garbage cans and donation boxes have been broken and people have come to rummage through them,” reports Ms. Tremblay. The mischief was recorded on surveillance cameras.

“Throughout the morning of May 27, our employees had to pick up garbage and donations from the ground,” she adds. It's discouraging for them because it takes up a lot of their time and this kind of event is ongoing.”

In a Facebook post, the Châteauguay Community Centre said that not leaving donations outside after the center's closing hours will also prevent them from being damaged by bad weather.

These days, we get a lot of donations,” says Nadia Tremblay. If you come and make donations during the Community Centre's opening hours, we can sort and place them. We can also let you know whether or not we have room for furniture donations.”

The Châteauguay Community Centre has not made any complaints to the police. Instead, it has focused on raising awareness.
