The Chateauguay Civitan Club is preparing special activities to mark the charity organization’s 100 years on the international scale in 2017.

«This is a good example of the Chateauguay Civitan Club participating in the 100 years’ challenge. They are coming up with 100 things to do to help their community and one of them is the basket», said Trish McConnell, Governor for Civitan’s Canadian District East, as she visited the building of the Chateauguay group on October 3.

«We are gonna fill the basket with 100 things for 100 years. A member came up with 100 cards for 100 senior citizens. So we’ll be doing that as well», said Louise Kinney, president of the Chateauguay club, speaking of non-perishable foods destined for underprivileged people.

Dressed in their characteristic blue vests dotted with numerous pins, the members present spoke of their mission and chatted while savouring cofee and cake.

Composed of volunteers, Civitan collects donations by organizing various benefit activities where people amuse themselves and socialize. With the proceeds and donations, the group helps people in need, offers bursaries to schoolchildren, and notably supports the Special Olympics. A Halloween Bingo, an entrepreneurs’ fair  and entertaining shows are also scheduled by Chateauguay Civitan in the coming weeks.
