(English Follows)La Châteauguoise Catherine Hooper s’est éteinte le 24 mai à l’âge de 85 ans. Mme Hoopers s’est impliquée de façon bénévole dans plusieurs causes au fil des ans. Son engagement dans sa municipalité lui a valu plusieurs honneurs. Elle a été faite membre de l’Ordre du Canada en 1997. Elle a également reçu, en 2017, la médaille du lieutenant-gouverneur dans la catégorie «aînés». La récipiendaire « a contribué au mieux-être de son milieu ou à l’atteinte de la mission d’un organisme », est-il indiqué sur le site web du lieutenant gouverneur du Québec. Mme Hooper est notamment connue pour son implication auprès de la paroisse Our Lady of Perpetutal Help.  À ce titre, elle a participé à l’accueil de réfugiés syriens dans la région en participant au Comité d’accueil de réfugiés du Grand Châteauguay. Elle a également siégé au comité de consultation en urbanisme pendant de nombreuses années à la Ville de Châteauguay. Elle était également co-porte-parole du groupe citoyen les Amis de l’île Saint-Bernard, fondé en 2010, qui donnait son appui à la Ville pour l’achat du tertre qui appartenait aux Sœurs grises. La Ville en a fait l’acquisition en 2011. « Catherine était une femme de coeur, soucieuse de la condition des femmes, de la justice sociale et de la protection de l'environnement. Elle va nous manquer cruellement », a témoigné le groupe les Amis de l’île Saint-Bernard sur Facebook. Les funérailles de Catherine Hooper seront célébrées le 8 juin à 11h à l’église Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Chateauguay loses citizen who was engaged in her community

Translation: Dan Rosenburg Chateauguay resident Catherine Hooper has passed away on May 24 at the age of 85. She was involved as a volunteer in various causes down through the years. Her commitment in her municipality brought her several honours. She was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1997. In 2017 she also received the Lieutenant-Governor’s Medal in the ‘’senior citizen’s’’ category. The recipient ‘’contributed to the well-being of her milieu or to the expectation of the mission of a group,’’ it was indicated on the website of the Lieutenant-Governor of Quebec. Hooper is notably known for her involvement with Our Lady Perpetual Help Church Parish. In that capacity, she participated in the welcoming of Syrian refugees to the region by participating in the welcoming of Greater Chateauguay refugees. She also sat on the urbanism consultation committee for numerous years in the City of Chateauguay. She was also co-spokesperson of the citizens group of the Friends of Ile St. Bernard, founded in 2010, which gave its support to the City to purchase a knoll which belonged to the Grey Nuns. The City acquired it in 2011. ‘’Catherine was a woman with heart, who was concerned with the condition of women, social justice and the protection of the environment. We will grievously miss her,’’ attested the group of Friends of Ile St. Bernard on Facebook. Catherine Hooper’s funeral will take place on June 8 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Church.
