«Le bonheur de vivre dans une petite ville de campagne. De nombreux snowbirds de Châteauguay ne pourront pas voter», déplore Linda Arpin. Considérant la taille de la population de Châteauguay qui approche 48 000 âmes, la municipalité devrait permettre le vote par correspondance, considère-t-elle.
Selon la loi, les municipalités peuvent offrir le service ou non. Comment expliquer le choix de Châteauguay ? Est-ce trop coûteux ? «Le nombre d’électeurs ayant demandé de voter par correspondance lors des élections municipales de 2013 est de 24 et de ce nombre, seulement 11 électeurs ont voté par correspondance alors que le nombre d’électeurs est d’environ 36 500», a répondu à cette question Sophie Jalbert, secrétaire d’élection à la Ville de Châteauguay.
