The collection of organic materials began recently in the 11 De Roussillon MRC cities and the seven municipalities in the Beauharnois-Salaberry MRC. It was a historic event.

The two MRCs have been preparing the 100,000 households involved for months for this change. They have distributed lots of information about the new brown bin. Le Soleil de Châteauguay has also published several reports on the subject. The message appears to have gotten through.
On the very first day of the collection last Wednesday in Chateauguay, the majority of the people had placed their brown bin at the side of the streets served by this newspaper.
The materials collected are being composted at Lachute and at Bury.
