Les Raiders gagnent à domicile après 42 jours d’absence

Par Dan Rosenburg - adaptation Michel Thibault (English follows) Les Raiders junior de Châteauguay ont écrasé 48 à 6 les Sabrecats de Laval-Rive-Nord qui les visitaient au terrain de l’école secondaire Louis-Philippe-Paré dimanche. Il s’agissait pour les Châteauguois d’un retour à domicile après 42 jours d’absence. Durant cette période, ils ont vaincu les mêmes Sabrecats 47 à 17, baissé pavillon 42 à 25 devant les Bruizers de la Rive-Sud et gagné une partie par défaut contre les Royals de Montréal, qui ont cessé leurs opérations. Les Bruizers ont battu les Riders d’Ottawa 13-12, samedi. Cette victoire leur a permis de terminer la saison régulière en première place de la Ligue de football junior du Québec. Ils ont ainsi obtenu un accès direct à la demi-finale. Les Raiders affronteront de leur côté les Riders, dimanche, à 14h, à LPP, pour déterminer qui atteindra cette demi-finale avec l’avantage crucial de jouer devant ses partisans. Comme le score l’indique, les Sabrecats n’ont pas offert une forte résistance aux Raiders. Le quart arrière châteauguois Mario Porecca est redevenu lui-même, dimanche, après une contreperformance contre la Rive-Sud. Il s’est associé à Brandon Parent pour deux passes de touchés et a ajouté une courte passe de touché d’une verge à Daniel Mancini pour faire bonne mesure. Kevin Cronn a franchi la ligne payante au terme d’une course de 35 verges initiée après avoir intercepté une passe. Jevon Taylor et Ryan Forest ont inscrit chacun touché d’assurance. Le botteur Remi Hort a enrichi la récolte des Raiders de 8 points, avec un placement de 19 verges, 4 convertis et un simple. Après qu’il se soit blessé, Nicolas Coulombe-Rivard a poursuivi son travail en ajoutant deux convertis. Jevin Richards, Sanders Armand et Patrick Mistiva ont brillé en défensive avec Cronn. Les deux premiers ont cloué le pivot des Sabrecats avec des sacs de 9 et 13 verges respectivement. Mistiva a réussi une autre interception opportune. Laval a évité le blanchissage avec un touché de Medrick Carrier-Withers. Les Raiders ont fait leur entrée sur le terrain le cœur gros après avoir appris le décès, la semaine précédente, de Dany Roeun, épouse de l’entraîneur adjoint Tony Mohammed, emportée par un cancer du sein à l’âge tendre de 31 ans. Junior Raiders rip Laval at home after 42-day absence

Dan Rosenburg The Chateauguay Junior Raiders finally resumed their home schedule in the Quebec Junior Football League last Sunday at Louis-Philippe Pare field with a resounding 48-6 trouncing of Laval's Rive-Nord Sabrecats following a 42-day absence during which they played three road games, posted a victory by default (when the winless Montreal Royals closed their operation), amd had their second bye week of the season. The most embarrassing defeat inflicted on the Raiders during their lengthy stint away from the friendly confines was a 42-25 setback against the South Shore Bruizers, a team they had beaten handily 37-3 way back in Chateauguay's last home appearance on Sept. 3. The Bruizers edged the Ottawa Junior Riders 13-12 last Saturday to clinch first place and a first-round playoff bye. The Raiders and Riders will thus clash in a sudden-death game this Sunday at 2 p.m. at LPP to decide who gets to play that all-important semi-final playoff match with the crucial home-field avantage. As the score indicates, the Raiders encountered little resistance from Laval, which long ago had been eliminated from the playoffs. Chateauguay quarterback Mario Porecca, coming off a below-par performance in the loss at South Shore, was back to his normal self Sunday. He hooked up with Brandon Parent for two touchdown passes and tossed a one-yarder to Daniel Mancini for good measure. Kevin Cronn streaked to the goal-line with a 35-yard return of a pass interception, while running backs Jevon Taylor and and Ryan Forest connected on short runs for insurance majors. Kicker Remi Hort added eight points with a 19-yard field goal, four converts and a single. After Hort was sidelined with an injury, Nicolas Coulombe-Rivard converted two more. Jevin Richards, Sanders Armand and Patrick Mistiva shared defensive laurels with Cronn. The first two nailed the Sabrecats' pivot with resounding sacks of nine and 13 yards respectively. Mistiva came up with another timely pass interception. The lone Laval score came on a 13-yard pass reception by Medrick Carrier-Withers. The Raiders entered the fray with heavy hearts after learning of the death last week of Dany Roeun, wife of assistant coach Tony Mohammed. The sparse LPP crowd paid its respects with a moment of silence before the game. She passed away because of breast cancer at the tender age of 31.
