The Kahnawake Peacekeepers announced early this evening that they had arrested a suspect in connection with threats posted earlier today on social media. The police force says there is no longer an active threat to the Kahnawake community and surrounding towns.

The suspect was arrested following a joint operation with the Montreal Police Service and other police forces. His identity cannot be disclosed until he has appeared in court.
The Kahnawake Education Center has announced that classes will resume as normal tomorrow. Lockdown measures were put in place in Kahnawake schools after an individual mentioned “mass shooting incoming” on social media this morning.
Châteauguay – Les Jardins-de-Napierville MP Nathalie Provost and Châteauguay Mayor Eric Allard praised the work of the Châteauguay police, Peacekeepers, and school authorities on social media.
Preventive measures were also implemented at New Frontiers School Board schools located in Châteauguay. They were lifted in the early afternoon.
“Fortunately, nothing happened. Yet it remains crucial to stay alert and united in the face of such situations. I deeply understand the anxiety many parents may have felt today, and I want to affirm that their concern is valid,” said Mr. Allard.
