Why such a delay in filing charges? “It took a lot of work to gather all the evidence to build a solid case,” explained Erika Grondin, Media Relations Officer with the Châteauguay Police Department.
On the morning of April 21, 2025, Mattew Lamarre was waiting to cross the intersection of D’Anjou Boulevard and Bell Street in Châteauguay on foot. According to witnesses, Jamie Horn was driving “with the pedal to the metal” from Saint-Joseph Boulevard and struck Mr. Lamarre, a traffic light, and other vehicles parked at the Châteauguay Regional Centre.
The Châteauguay resident had no chance and died instantly. Mr. Horn was also injured in the accident.
Mr. Lamarre’s death shook the community of Châteauguay. Mr. Lamarre had been living on the streets for several years. He was known for his famous grocery cart. A memorial had even been set up at the scene of the accident featuring a grocery cart.
The prosecution opposed Jamie Horn’s release. During his court appearance on May 27, Mr. Horn was also charged with fraud exceeding $5,000 in a separate case.
