Several students from local English schools will go to class later, or switch directly to online learning on Wednesday, April 14th. The New Frontiers School Board announced measures in response to the teachers’ strike planned between midnight and 9:30 a.m. tomorrow.
All elementary schools will start their day after 9:30 a.m. and offer a few transportation options. The bus will pick up students attending Chateauguay primary schools – Centennial Park School, Harmony Elementary, Mary Gardner School and St. Willibrord Elementary – 90 minutes later than usual and drop them off at around 9:30 a.m. once there is a teacher on duty.
For Chateauguay Valley and Valleyfield elementary schools – Franklin Elementary, Gault Institute, Hemmingford Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Howick Elementary and Ormstown Elementary – the school bus will pick up children 2 hours later than usual and drop them off around 9:30 a.m.
Afternoon departure times will remain the same.
High school students from grades 7 to 11 will switch to online learning for the day.
Depending on the program, adult vocational and education centres will have a mix of online and in-person classes. Each centre will contact students with more details.
Teachers who are members of the Centrale des unions du Québec organized a short strike when contract negotiations failed. According to La Presse, school managers will talk to the Quebec Labour Tribunal on Tuesday to try to prevent the pressure tactic.
